Hilary Gardner

Hilary Gardner sings stories in song at Out by Ten.

You may have heard Hilary Gardner’s new album, The Great City – it’s played constantly by Jonathan Schwartz on his NPR radio program. She has even sung duets on Broadway with Frank Sinatra – through the wonders of digital magic – after being selected by the Frank Sinatra estate to appear as the live, onstage singer, backed by a 19-piece band — and Frank — in Twyla Tharp’s Tony-nominated Come Fly Away. The Great City, is being released by Anzic Records on September 30, 2014.

Out by Ten presents the jazz pianist, Joe Alterman.

Joe Alterman

Joe, one of the most talented young jazz pianists in NYC, has performed with other jazz greats at venues around the world including the Blue Note Jazz Club in Milan and NYC, the Iridium Jazz Club, the Kitano, and Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola. The legendary Nat Hentoff, writing in the Wall Street Journal, said this about Joe’s magic touch on the keyboard: “’Talk about the joy of jazz!…It’s a pleasure to hear this music’…You’ve got it!”



Diana Spechler, 7-time Moth story-SLAM sinner, performs at Out by Ten.

Diana Spechler is a 7-time Moth StorySLAM winner and novelist, whose stories have been featured on The Moth Radio Hour and The Moth Podcast. She is the author of two novels. Skinny and Who By Fire, and teaches writing in New York City and for Stanford University’s Online Writer’s Studio.


Katie Northlich is a four-time National Monologue Slam Champion, who has performed her solo shows at the Cherry Lane Theatre and other off-Broadway venues (plus the Solo Repertory Theatre and the All For One Theatre Festival). She recently hosted and co-wrote a pilot for CBS Local.

Heather Harpham performs stories in motion at Out by Ten.

Heather Harpham has performed her award-winning theater work, and her solo plays (Happiness and Burning) and improvs – a mesmerizing mix of stories and dance — as close as Brooklyn and as far afield as Estonia and Nepal. She is an adjunct faculty member of Manhattanville College and SUNY Purchase.
